天台四教儀 1.19

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.19](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1931.1.19)

> Fourth, as for the indeterminate teaching: this is also due to the Buddha, within the previous four flavors, expounding the Dharma with a single voice, while sentient beings each attained understanding according to their kind. This is the Tathāgata's inconceivable power, which can enable sentient beings to attain the benefit of the sudden amidst a gradual teaching, and to attain the benefit of the gradual amidst a sudden teaching. Because their attainment of benefit differed in this way, it is called the indeterminate teaching. However, as for the two teachings of the secret and the indeterminate, the doctrine under their teachings consists merely of the Tripitaka, shared, distinct, and perfect \[teachings\]. The four teachings of conversion method end here.
