- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.61](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1931.1.61)

> Next, entering the first practice, one cuts off one grade of ignorance, equal to virtual enlightenment of the distinct teaching. Next, entering the second practice, it is equal to sublime enlightenment of the distinct teaching. From the third practice onward, people of the distinct teaching do not even know the names, let alone subdue or cut them off, because the distinct teaching only breaks through twelve grades of ignorance. Therefore, what is our school's true cause is considered your school's ultimate fruit. It is simply because the more expedient the teaching, the higher the rank; the more real the teaching, the lower the rank. For example, when border regions are not yet pacified, the borrowed official posts are high; but when determining titles and discussing merit, the actual ranks are low. Therefore, although the expedient teaching is called sublime enlightenment, it is merely the second practice in the real teaching.
