> The Ten Non-dual Gates of the Shiqian has been regarded by lecturers past and present as a single difficult text. Some wrote numerous annotations, each setting forth discordant views; who among them did not claim for himself to hold the pearl of the Marquis of Sui or to wield a pen spanning the heavens? How could they have contemplated the doctrinal teachings and contemplation of our single school, while remaining completely ignorant of their origin of inspiration? When the Master read them, he sighed repeatedly: not only was the explanation of the text inaccurate, but how could they have let the great framework fall into disarray, like a mountain crumbling and horns breaking? It truly caused him deep sorrow.
