> The Bailu says: "Have one person ascend the high seat and chant the Sūtra of Invoking Avalokiteśvara." (The Lotus Samādhi says: "As for the method of chanting the sūtra, one must make the words and sentences distinct and the voice clear and articulate, neither relaxed nor hurried, binding the conditions to the words and sentences in the sūtra, just like facing the text without discrepancy, and must not make errors. Next, one should quiet the mind, understanding that the nature of sound is empty just like a valley echo; although sound cannot be apprehended, the mind clearly illumines the meanings of all sentences, with articulate words. Mobilize this Dharma-sound to fill the dharmadhātu, make offerings to the Three Jewels, and bestow it universally on sentient beings, causing them to enter the one real realm of the Mahāyāna." Conforming to the meaning of this sūtra, one should cause the ten classes of practitioners to each eliminate poison and harm, and all enter the great ocean of nirvāṇa.) The Bailu says: "Before noon and in the initial part of the night, apply the methods above; for the rest, sitting meditation and worshiping the Buddha follow the ordinary method. This is the regulation for one day and one night, up to the second day, and even up to seven times seven days, it is also like this." The Fuxing says: "The rest refers to the four periods; they must follow the ordinary ritual and cannot be omitted."
