> Furthermore, as the sūtra below states, the Buddha addressed Vaidehī: "You are an ordinary person, and the thoughts of your mind are also inferior; you cannot see far, and for this reason the Tathāgatas have special expedient means to enable you and others to see." The queen said to the Buddha: "Now, through the Buddha's power, I see that land. If after the Buddha's parinirvāṇa the sentient beings are afflicted by defilements, evils, unwholesomeness, and the five sufferings, how will they be able to see the Land of Ultimate Bliss?" The Buddha then addressed her: "Vaidehī! You and sentient beings should single-mindedly contemplate, visualize all the precious banners beneath the ground of vaiḍūrya in the west, the adornments within the many precious chambers on the ground, and so forth, focusing the mind with attention, and you will also be able to see just like the queen above." That is to say: "Contemplate each one to make it extremely clear, so that whether closing the eyes or opening the eyes, one is enabled to see it all. Visualizing like this is called a rough vision. This refers to seeing within perception and thought, hence it is called rough vision. If one attains the samādhi of a concentrated mind and the samādhi of oral invocation, the eye of the mind will open, and one will see all the adornments of that Pure Land, which cannot be fully described." Furthermore, as proved by this sūtra, all ordinary people, provided only that they direct their whole hearts to it, will definitely have the experience of seeing. One should know this. Even if someone sees or hears, there is no need to be startled or surprised. Why is this? It is because one is enabled to see through the external addition of Amitābha Buddha's samādhi-power. Therefore, it is called the adhipati-pratyaya of the samādhi of seeing the Buddha and the Pure Land.
