> I explain: To hold exclusively that atomic particles have the nature of obstruction is merely an aberrant sectarian reckoning of the Sarvāstivāda school; how could it be the wondrous, universal purport of the Mahāyāna? Take the Mahāyāna alone: the length of time and the size of worlds are completely indefinite. In terms of time, it extends seven days into a kalpa, or contracts a thousand years into a brief moment; in terms of measure, it contains Mount Sumeru within a mustard seed, or encloses the great ocean within a pore of skin. How could it be limited to long or short, huge or tiny? Spatial obstruction is also like this: obstruction has no fixed obstruction. Its obstruction is wood obstructing wood, stone obstructing stone. What does not obstruct: water to humans, fire to hungry ghosts, pearls to gods, and houses to fish are originally in the very same place—how could there be different locations? Analogizing from this to that, the principle can be understood. Therefore, Śāriputra's mounds and pits originally had no separate place, and how could the Brahmā King's pure land point to a different realm? It is entirely because myriad realms depend on myriad minds, pure or impure according to the mind. How could the wondrous purport of consciousness-only be confined to spatial obstruction?
