- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.29](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1960.2.29)

> Explanation: The intermediate state of the desire realm, before the conditions for birth have converged, undergoes that intermediate body for a long time, and so must feed on aromas to proceed to birth existence. The pure land intermediate state attains rebirth in the space of a snap of the fingers. Since the time is not long, there is no need for food. Furthermore, passing through the intervening hundred thousand koṭis of buddha lands, it simply feeds in midair on the fragrance of those buddha lands to sustain its intermediate body and proceed to its place of birth. The meanings concerning intermediate existence are boundlessly numerous and cannot be fully expounded.
