> The woman Old Mother Pei was a native of Jinyang in Bingzhou. Formerly, since the Zhenguan era, she met a master who instructed her to use small beans to count \[her recitations in\] mindfulness of Amitābha Buddha, and she obtained thirteen dān of small beans. When her karmic retribution was exhausted, she knew of herself where she would be reborn; she went everywhere to take leave of monastics and laypeople, announcing a final farewell. Later, at the time of the noon meal on a certain day, she said to her family members: "Bring fire and burn incense. Amitābha Buddha has arrived bringing two lotus pedestals, and he has given me one lotus pedestal." Having finished speaking, she thereupon passed away.
