> Generating the mind in accordance with phenomena admits of retrogression; people of indeterminate nature are also able to generate it. Generating the mind in conformity with principle is non-retrogressing; only people of the bodhisattva nature are able to generate it. The merit of generating the mind in this way is boundless; even if all Buddhas were to expound it for exhaustless kalpas, those merits could not be exhausted. The characteristics of the primary cause are briefly stated thus.
