> Answer: "According to what the Treatise on Rebirth says, the reason women and the two vehicles are not reborn is that they lack the nature of those who are definitely reborn. Women only cherish a female body, do not seek the pure land, and are unwilling to practice buddhānusmṛti; the treatise refutes them and says they are not reborn. It is the same for the two vehicles and those with deficient sense organs: they merely abide in the minor fruition, are not reborn in the pure land, and do not understand buddhānusmṛti; therefore they are not reborn. When the Contemplation Sūtra, the Amitābha-sūtra, and so forth speak of being reborn, it refers to those of the two vehicles, those with deficient sense organs, and women who turn their minds, practice buddhānusmṛti, and loathe the female body."
