> The New Commentary of Zhachuan says: "The Land of Utmost Bliss has four differences: namely, \[the Land where Commoners and Sages\] Cohabit, \[the Land of\] Expediency, \[the Land of\] True Reward, and \[the Land of Eternally Quiescent\] Light. Discussing the former three progressively, they have both suffering and bliss; only the Land of Quiescent Light is bliss in the utmost degree. Within the Land where Commoners and Sages Cohabit there are two kinds: the defiled cohabitation and the pure cohabitation. What the present sūtra illuminates is the pure cohabitation. The Buddha's intention is to lead practitioners to the bliss of the Land of Quiescent Light; yet because they are not yet ready for it, he temporarily has them take up the purity of cohabitation. Once they reach that purity, then the ultimate bliss of Quiescent Light can indeed be anticipated. How great is the Sage's skillful expedience; it is truly like this!"
