> If someone cultivates the five mindfulness gates to completion, they are certain to be reborn in the Land of Peace and Bliss and see Amitābha Buddha. The first is the Gate of Worship: with physical karma, prostrating to Amitābha Buddha out of the desire to be born in that land. The second is the Gate of Praise: with verbal karma, praising the light and marks of wisdom of that Buddha, desiring to cultivate in accordance with reality. The third is the Gate of Aspiration: with mental karma, constantly making vows, focusing the mind exclusively with single-mindedness on certain rebirth, desiring to cultivate śamatha in accordance with reality. The fourth is the Gate of Contemplation: using wisdom to observe, desiring to cultivate vipaśyanā in accordance with reality—first, observing the adornments of that land; second, observing the adornments of that Buddha; third, observing the adornments of those bodhisattvas. The fifth is the Gate of Dedication: dedicating all merit and wholesome roots through skillful means to gather in sentient beings, never abandoning any in the world. Furthermore, the three kinds of adornments in the Gate of Contemplation, when briefly stated, enter into one Dharma phrase, namely the phrase of purity, because they are the unconditioned dharmakāya of true wisdom. When bodhisattvas cultivate the five gates in this way, benefiting themselves and benefiting others, they quickly attain the fulfillment of bodhi.
