> Blacksmith Huang was originally an army soldier who forged iron for a living. Whenever he forged iron, he chanted Amitābha Buddha without ceasing his voice. One day, free of illness, he entrusted a neighbor to write out a verse to be printed and circulated, broadly encouraging people to practice recollection of the Buddha. The verse said: / "Day and night, ding-ding dang-dang, / Long forged, it turns into steel. / Great Peace is drawing near; / I am departing for the Western Direction." / Thereupon he passed away. This verse circulated widely in Hunan, and many people practiced recollection of the Buddha.
