> Question: Why is he named Amitābha? Answer: The Amitābha Sūtra and the Contemplation Sūtra say: That Buddha's light is immeasurable, illuminating the lands of the ten directions without hindrance, searching only for sentient beings mindful of the Buddha to embrace them and not abandon them; hence he is named Amitābha Buddha. That Buddha's lifespan and that of his people last for immeasurable, boundless asaṃkhyeya kalpas; hence he is named Amitābha.
