> The Master also said: "Seeing the Way is the basis, and illuminating the Way is the function; then one can attain the power of great wisdom. If you have not yet attained this, the desirable things of the three realms must simply be completely eliminated; if even a hair's breadth remains, it still will not do. Just consider when you are asleep: if not angry, you are glad. These are the familiar realms of delusion and agitation in the three realms. If not vigilant, then one is muddled and agitated; this is entirely brought about by your scattered confusion. The ancients called it 'entangled phantoms'. Gold is truly gold, but what of the ore? If you can see through to the very bone and marrow, that is your own power. If you are not yet able to observe like this, then those towers, halls, pavilions, and the various sages might not hold your hand forever, nor will you necessarily rely on them and practice accordingly. Thus it has been from ancient times to the present."
