汾陽無德禪師語錄 2.305

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.305](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1992.2.305)

「詰問一百則，從頭道理全，古今如目覩，有口不能詮。」室中請益古人公案，未盡善者，請以代之；語不格者，請以別之，故目之為代別。

> "Interrogations numbering one hundred cases, / From beginning to end the principles are complete. / Past and present are like seeing with one's own eyes; / Though having a mouth, one cannot fully explain them."
> When asking for further instruction in the master's room regarding the ancient masters' gong'ans, for those that are not entirely satisfactory, he asked to substitute for them; for words that do not hit the mark, he asked to differ from them. Hence they are titled 'Substitute and Alternative Phrases'.
