> "Miccaka came from Central India to Northern India. Seeing a man holding a wine vessel in his hand, he asked: 'From where did the master come, and where are you going?' Miccaka said: 'I come from my own mind, and I wish to go to no place.' \[The man\] asked again: 'Does the master recognize what is in my hand?' The master said: 'This is an unclean vessel, yet it holds what is pure.' \[The man\] asked again: 'Does the master recognize me?' The master said: 'I am not cognition, and cognition is not me; although I recognize you, I do not know your family name and given name. If you briefly state your name, I will immediately understand.'" Replacing \[the original words\], he said: "Since the master already recognizes me, why wait for me to state my name?"
