> Celebration and joy, celebration and joy, with no one weeping;
> sitting upright in peaceful dhyāna, ever knowing contentment.
> Not greedy for worldly gain, seeking nothing more,
> envying not glory and fearing not humiliation.
> One meal at the hour of the dragon, one gruel at the hour of the tiger;
> coarse or fine, leaving it to wheat and grain.
> In tattered clothes and damaged patches, passing cold and heat,
> planting abundant blessings universally for humans and devas.
> The sword of wisdom, the candle of precepts and concentration,
> illuminates and shatters the dark prison of ignorance.
> Directly cutting to the root source, the words of all buddhas
> are earnestly spoken and must be recorded.
> The Dharma-nature penetrates, free from deceit and flattery;
> asking and answering according to capacity, unbound.
> With loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity, one plants fertile fields;
> generous, pure, and clear, bestowing gold and jade.
> The nature is serene and mild, constantly solemn;
> wishing to serve as eyes for devas and humans.
> The five roots and five powers lead to the five supernatural knowledges;
> the three liberations and three emptinesses destroy the three poisons.
> With a pure mind free from mixed desires,
> constantly taking shame and conscience as clothing,
> adorned with necklaces of jewels upon the liberated body,
> vowing not to perpetuate worldly afflictions.
> Pervading the Dharma realm, leaving length and brevity to fate;
> coming and going, heedless of monk or lay.
> Free of arising and free of thought, wholly without doubt;
> possessing virtue and possessing ability, leaving it to the axe and adze.
> Now I celebrate myself and rejoice within myself;
> may those of the same Way and the same mind constantly read this together.
> A verse says:
> Without virtue, without ability, and without understanding,
> without mind and without thought, continuing the mysterious lamp;
> without arising, without ceasing, without coming, without going—
> free of right and free of wrong, a single monk.
