- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.14](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1993.1.14)

> Ascending the hall, he said: "Great billows surge vast and boundless, white waves surge to the heavens. One who cuts across the flow to reach the shore is serene, forgetting all worries; the traveler in an isolated boat with short oars knits his brows, advancing and retreating. Tell me: how do you say a phrase for when the wind is calm and waves are still? Is there anyone who can say it? If no one can say it, Tong'an will bestow an alms-gift upon you all." After a long pause, he said: "The fisherman idly sings to himself; the woodcutter sings aloud alone." He descended from the seat.
