> A monk asked: “When the great functioning manifests before us, please, Master, distinguish it.” The Master said: “Pluck out your eyebrows, pour out your brain marrow, and speak a phrase from beneath your heels.” The monk said: “The Moxie sword is raised aloft; flood dragons lose their color.” The Master said: “How so?” The monk made a slash before him with his hand and said: “What can be done about this?” The Master said: “Thirty years from now, it will be hard even to find a monk like this.” The monk then shouted. The Master said: “A fine shout, but there is no host in it yet.” The monk bowed. The Master said: “When one should be decisive but is not, it brings chaos in return.”
