> When the judicial commissioner entered the mountain, \[the Master\] ascended the seat. A monk asked, "The judicial commissioner's carriages have come from afar to grace this Dharma gathering. We beg the Master for a single key regarding the ancestral vehicle of the highest truth." The Master said, "A straight-cut headband, a sharp-brimmed hat." The monk continued, "Not only does the judicial commissioner receive this goodness, but this student bows in gratitude for the Master's kindness." The Master said, "If I pull off your eyebrows and knock away your nostrils, what then?" The monk sighed, "Hsu, hsu." The Master said, "To grind flour, one must rely on local wheat; to sing a song, one must be a person from the imperial capital."
