> When the Master first resided at Chongsheng Chan Monastery in Tong'an, on the day of opening the hall, after the proclamation of the dedication was concluded, the Master held up incense and said: "This stick of incense is for the boundless holy life of the reigning Emperor." He held up incense again and said: "This is to support and extend the blessings and longevity of the military commissioner, the bureau director, and the civil and military officials, and next for the peace of the realm and the constant turning of the wheel of the Dharma." He held up incense yet again: "Assembly, tell me: for whom should this stick of incense be? How many people make conjectures, yet do not know where it settles? Today, for Chan Master Ciming of Hunan, I burn this one stick, causing it to permeate monastic groves throughout the realm, bringing disaster and calamity to all patch-robed monks!"
