> Ascending the hall, he cited: "Layman Pang was selling bamboo strainers. Coming down off a bridge, he took a tumble. His daughter Lingzhao also fell down beside her father. The Layman said: 'What are you doing?' The daughter said: 'Seeing Father fall to the ground, I am helping you.' The Layman said: 'Fortunately, no one saw.'" The master then said: "Doting on the child, he unintentionally laughed out loud; / Yet right in the middle of the road they wallowed in mud and sand. / Had this old fellow Huanglong seen it at that time, / With a single staff he would have beaten this foe to death!" Striking the Chan seat with the fly-whisk, he descended from the seat.
