> Ascending the hall, a monk asked: "What is the meaning of the Ancestral Master's coming from the West?" The master said: "The shoulder-pole carries no books." The master said: "When the mind arises, diverse dharmas arise; when the mind ceases, diverse dharmas cease." Holding up his staff, he struck it once and said: "The great chiliocosm is smashed to hundreds of miscellaneous bits; carrying the almsbowl to the Xiangji realm, I go to eat my meal."
