> Ascending the hall, he cited: "Zhaozhou asked an old woman, 'Where are you going?' The woman said, 'Going to steal Zhaozhou's bamboo shoots.' Zhou said, 'What if you run into Zhaozhou?' The woman slapped him twice in succession; Zhou then let the matter drop." The Master said: "When Zhaozhou let the matter drop, I wonder how the assembly deliberates on this? Baiyun also wants to disclose a bit of news, wanting everyone to know it together. Although the old woman executed the true directive, she was never finished her whole life; though Zhaozhou was slapped twice, he bit through his back teeth. It can be said of the old woman that on the road she departed, her whole body was as light as a leaf; Zhaozhou's lofty renown for a thousand ages is as heavy as a mountain."
