- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.48](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1996.1.48)

> \[The Master\] cited: "Xuefeng asked Touzi, 'How is it when one hammer blow forms it?' Touzi said, 'Not a fellow of quick wit.' Xuefeng said, 'How is it when not relying on a single hammer blow?' Touzi said, 'This bucket of black lacquer!'"
> The Master said, "Thus for a time Xuefeng was frustrated. Moreover, Touzi was an expert furnace and bellows. If I had been Xuefeng at that time, waiting for Touzi to say, 'Not a fellow of quick wit,' I would simply have said to him, 'The tongs and hammer are in my hands.' Venerable elders, what words should rightly be given to Touzi? If you can speak \[them\], then you will be quick-witted all your life and illuminate the ancestral eye. If you are muddle-headed, a hammer blow atop your crown—do not say I did not tell you."
