- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.171](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1996.2.171)

> Ascending the hall, he said: "'The river of Chan calms along with the waves; the water of samādhi clarifies following the ripples.' If the staff is a wave, patch-robed monks act seven-longitudinal and eight-transverse; if suddenly heaven and earth, the great earth, are a wave, one then sees leaning on fences and groping walls. Tell me, is letting go good, or is holding fast good?" One day he said: "The spring thunder has already struck, but the sunny birds have not yet cried. I do not ask you about the sentence that confuses the body—how do you say the word that penetrates through?"
