- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [16.42](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1997.16.42)

> \[The Master\] cited: "Yaoshan said to Yunyan: 'Call the novice for me.' Yan said: 'Why is the Master calling him?' Shan said: 'I have a broken-legged pot; I need him to carry it up and down.' Yan said: 'In that case, I will lend the Master a hand.'" The Master said: "To raise one and illuminate three is the everyday conduct of a patch-robed monk. Since Yunyan was informed of what was past and knew what was to come, Yaoshan also did not wrongly entrust him. Although Chongning has a hundred uglinesses and a thousand clumsinesses, I have a bottomless basket, and furthermore hope that all of you will carry it with both hands. Why? Climbing a branch by grasping a branch."
