- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.12](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1997.4.12)

> Ascending the hall, he said: “Ultimate reality is not inside; the great thousand worlds are not outside. Surface and interior are as one, subsuming and merging with the Dharma realm. The moon imprints the cold pool; the pearl sinks into the vast sea. Trees wither and leaves fall; nowhere is it, yet nowhere is it absent. The myriad dharmas are fundamentally identical, never having faced toward or away; only if one is a person in the midst of it is there no change from start to finish. And what is this lack of change? / Only after the snow do we know the integrity of pines and cypresses; / Only when matters are difficult do we see the heart of a great person.”
