> At the invitation of Transport Commissioner Huang, \[the Master\] ascended the hall and said: "Great assembly! A single phrase cuts off the flow, an iron wall and silver mountain that cannot be approached; the ten thousand conditions are all penetrated, illuminating earth and illuminating heaven beyond any cage. Luminous and unhidden, distinct and beyond illumination and function: the appearance in the world of the Buddhas of the three times was solely for this one matter; the transmission and maintenance of the ancestral masters of successive generations was also just this one mind. Therefore, prajñā is like a great mass of fire; prajñā is like an inexhaustible storehouse; prajñā is like a boat and oars crossing the sea; prajñā is like a bright lamp illuminating the night. If brought forth in winding accommodation downward, then there is striking the couch and raising the whisk, winking eyes and raising eyebrows, speaking or remaining silent, discussing being or discussing non-being; if raised up transcendentally, it is like sparks from struck flint, like a flash of lightning: at times applying the staff, at times delivering a shout, at times arrow points meeting each other, at times unseen even by the Buddha eye. Even though it is like this, there are still transcendent and descending \[aspects\]. If one suddenly meets a person of this caliber, there are actually no such diverse matters—it is simply readily made. Therefore it is said: 'Mountains are mountains, waters are waters, heaven is heaven, earth is earth—not shifting or changing a single hair.' Right at just such a time, do you clearly understand? When the myriad states possess the Way, they submit to the imperial transformation; laying down shields and spears, they delight in universal peace."
