- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [12.72](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1998a.12.72)

> Praising Zhuan is Miaoxi; reviling Zhuan is also Miaoxi. Praising him or reviling him each has its reason: those who praise him do so because he possesses the patch-robed monk's true eye; those who revile him do so because he is steeped inside a vinegar vat. Someone said: "A lineage teacher like Zhuan can be neither praised nor reviled; fine gold and beautiful jade naturally have their fixed value, and praising or reviling him merely adds to idle gossip." Miaoxi heard this and smiled without answering; he merely clapped his hands, clicked his teeth three times, and let them divine by tortoiseshell or strike roof tiles as they pleased.
