> Ascending the high seat, \[the Master\] cited: "Mazu had Zhizang deliver a letter to Patriarch Guoyi of this mountain. The Patriarch opened the envelope and saw a single circle; he immediately called for a brush and made a dot in the middle. When National Teacher Zhong of Nanyang heard of this, he said, 'Master Qin was still deluded by Master Ma.'" The Master said, "For Master Ma it was the severe cold of midwinter; for Guoyi it was the gradual heat of early summer. Although cold and heat are not the same, neither lost the proper season. Why did National Teacher Zhong nonetheless say, 'Master Qin was still deluded by Master Ma'? Do you understand? When lotus leaves move without wind, there are definitely fish swimming." He stepped down from the seat.
