After finishing their studies, they traveled together up the Yangzi River to Huanglong, where they attended Master Nan's ascending the hall and informal gatherings. Lin did not comprehend his purport, and so sought to enter the room. Lin \[of Jiashan\] became angry with him, gave him a beating, and left. Later, Lin \[of Shishuang\] experienced a great awakening, and his sharp wits stood out preeminently. Whenever he expounded the Dharma, he was quite similar to Zhenjing, yet he was not acquainted with Zhenjing.
