- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.127](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1999.1.127)

> Thanking the monastic administrators, he ascended the hall, held his staff horizontally across, and said: "If you have a staff, I give you a staff; if you have no staff, I snatch your staff away. That old fellow Bajiao could only look forward and not backward; making private use of property belonging to the permanent community, he wore out the straw matting and broke the floral pattern excessively, causing later descendants to sprout joints upon the joints of the staff, disgracing the style of the lineage. Jingshan is utterly dry and bare: having, I do not give; lacking, I do not snatch. Why so?" Striking the staff, he said: "Once power is in one's hands, observe when the decree is carried out."
