- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.85](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1999.1.85)

> Ascending the hall: “A single leaf falls, and all under heaven is autumn. The wind is high and clouds are thin; the water is emerald and emptiness floats. Bodhidharma did not understand the phrase that takes one by the hand; in the Shaolin \[monastery\] he sat in vain, cold and desolate. Unbearable is that fellow Yunmen, rooted behind his post, again placing a head on top of a head. Remember when a monk asked Yunmen, ‘What was the intention of Bodhidharma facing the wall for nine years?’ Yunmen said, ‘Twenty-seven.’” The Master gave a shout and said, “As expected, it is right here.” After a long pause, he said further, “Seen through.”
