> Metal, stone, strings, and bamboo can hardly resemble his sound; / azure clouds and clear breezes can hardly match his tune. / Jade-like luster, secluded and pure; flower-tidings thoroughly interfused. / Its wonder lies beyond being and non-being; how could it fall into emptiness or the provisional? / Zhang Sengyao lowered his brush, but where could he depict it? / This was the constant measure of Old Man Shi'an. / Would he be willing to be classed with those who can write poetry or paint? / Widely renowned, his fragrant name spreads at Lingyuan Monastery; / far into a thousand ages, people revere his lofty footsteps.
