- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [8.51](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2000.8.51)

> Ascending the hall: "Deshan enters the door and immediately strikes; Linji enters the door and immediately shouts; Xutang enters the door and immediately scolds. When Deshan enters the door and immediately strikes, can you call it striking? When Linji enters the door and immediately shouts, can you call it shouting? When Xutang enters the door and immediately scolds, can you call it scolding? Since it cannot be called striking, cannot be called shouting, and cannot be called scolding, what after all can it be called?" Striking with his whisk: "All my life my whole heart has been poured out to people, yet those who know me are as if they knew me not."
