### [8.52](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2000.8.52)

> Informal gathering on a winter night: "'When the host of yins is completely peeled away, the one yang arises; once again one sees Dongshan walking upon the water.' Coldly laughing at the talkative old Yunmen, who nevertheless comes at midday to strike the third watch. If you can see it like this: Old Hao's cloth trousers were not left unwashed, but he had no change of clothes; Jingqing's sleeping mat was not left unrolled, but he had no such idle time. Look at the ancients: through ninety-nine and a hundred hardships, what kind of face and mouth did they achieve?" Striking with his staff: "First rhyme dong, second rhyme dong; fold your hands before your chest."
