> Ascending the hall, \[the Master\] cited: A monk asked Huguo, "What are one's original parents?"
> Guo said, "The ones whose heads are not white."
> The monk said, "I wonder: what should one offer to them?"
> Guo said, "Attentively, riceless meals; before the hall, do not ask about kinship."
> The Master said, "The room generates empty whiteness; the eyes illuminate with pure light. Yet this is still not the place where a patch-robed monk establishes his life. Tell me: ultimately, what is it?" After a pause, he said, "At the third watch, the moon sets and the night nest is cold; in the forest of jasper, the thousand-year crane does not roost."
