One day the meal was late. Deshan carried his bowl to the Dharma hall. Xuefeng said: "This old fellow! The bell has not rung, and the drum has not sounded. Carrying your bowl, where are you going?" / Deshan then returned to the Abbot's quarters. Xuefeng recounted this to Yantou. / Yantou said: "Even great Deshan does not understand the final phrase." / Deshan heard of this and sent his attendant to summon Yantou.
