> He cited: Nanquan was visiting an estate, and by chance the estate master had prepared in advance to welcome him. Quan said: “I usually come and go without letting others know; why did you arrange this in advance to such an extent?” The master said: “Last night the local earth deity reported it.” An attendant then asked: “Since he is a great spiritual friend, why was he spied upon by ghosts and spirits?” Quan said: “Add another portion of offerings before the local deity.” / The Master said: “Changlu would not do so. If I saw this estate master speak like that, I would immediately seize him and say: ‘I cannot let you off!’ Why so? Have you not heard it said: ‘One who comes to speak of right and wrong is precisely the person of right and wrong’?”
