- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [3.44](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2001.3.44)

> \[The Master\] cited: Jingqing asked Lingyun: “How is it before chaos has divided?” Lingyun said: “The exposed pillar becomes pregnant.” Jingqing said: “How is it after it has divided?” Lingyun said: “Like a wisp of cloud dotting the great void.” Jingqing said: “Just as for the great void, does it still accept dotting or not?” Lingyun did not answer. Jingqing said: “If so, then sentient beings do not come.” Lingyun also did not answer. Jingqing said: “When one reaches pure clarity, completely without dots, how is it?” Lingyun said: “It is still the streaming of the true and constant.” Jingqing said: “What is the streaming of the true and constant?” Lingyun said: “Like a mirror constantly bright.” Jingqing said: “Is there still something going beyond or not?” Lingyun said: “There is.” Jingqing said: “What is the affair going beyond?” Lingyun said: “Smash the mirror, and I will meet with you.”
> The Master said: “Divided and undivided: the jade loom moves at night; dotted and undotted: the golden shuttle is cast in secret. Even if it is of a single hue and purely clear, it has not attained complete peace and security. And tell me: when the mirror is smashed, in what place will they meet? Do you still understand? After the old hare in clear autumn swallows the light; when the dark dragon in clear water sheds its bones.”
