> \[Hongzhi\] cited: The Tripiṭaka Master of Śabdavidyā had an audience with the King of Min. The king asked Xuansha to test him. Behind his back, Xuansha tapped an iron brazier with copper fire tongs and asked, "What sound is that?" The Tripiṭaka Master said, "The sound of copper and iron." Xuansha said, "Great King, do not be deceived by this foreigner." The Master \[Hongzhi\] said, "When principle tallies, it is wondrous: the poor son obtains the jewel in his robe. When feelings are confined, there are merely objects: the wrestler loses the pearl on his forehead. The Tripiṭaka Master only knew how to look forward; Xuansha was unable to look backward. Do you know? To falsely accuse someone of a crime brings that crime upon oneself."
