> He cited: Master Shuiliao asked Great Master Ma: “What is the great meaning of the Buddha Dharma?” Mazu kicked him over. Shuiliao had a great awakening. He got up, laughed heartily, and said: “Hundreds of thousands of Dharma gates and immeasurable subtle meanings—right on the tip of a single hair, I have recognized their source.” / The Master said: “Great Master Ma shouldn’t have let him off. When he got up and spoke like that, \[Mazu\] should just have asked: ‘Where did this single hair come from?’ While he hesitated, \[Mazu\] should have given him another kick.”
