> Ascending the hall, a monk asked: "Hearing sound, one awakens to the Way; seeing form, one clarifies the mind. How does one who knows it communicate this message?" The Master said: "Do not bring sense faculties or sense dust along, then it is ready for ordinary use." The monk said: "Filling the eyes, filling the ears, without a hair or a millimeter's gap." The Master said: "Right in the middle of it, how do you penetrate?" The monk said: "The frost-covered bell sees off the setting moon; the morning horn scatters plum blossoms." The Master said: "Again you are turning according to sound and form." The monk said: "What about when not turning according to sound and form?" The Master said: "The bell strikes, the horn sounds." The monk said: "Thank you, Master, for the instruction."
