- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [4.153](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.2001.4.153)

> Ascending the hall, he cited: A monk asked Yunmen, 'In early autumn at the end of summer, if suddenly someone on the road ahead asks, how should I respond?' Yunmen said, 'Assembly, step back!' The comings and goings of a patch-robed monk—how could they employ contrivances? How could they admit scrutiny? / The old man in the coir cape is deeply seasoned, accustomed to waves and billows; / Without applying oars or paddles, the boat is left to drift with the current.
