> Ascending the hall when Venerable Zhengxie entered the mountain, he cited: "Ānanda asked Kāśyapa, 'Besides the golden-cloth robe, what else did the World-Honoured One transmit?' Kāśyapa called, 'Ānanda!' Ānanda replied, 'Yes?' Kāśyapa said, 'Knock down the flagpole in front of the gate.'" The Master said, "A single move can turn a game of chess; the immortal's wondrous point is just this little bit. Pointing open the living eye distinguishes life and death; do not act in desperate haste like treating a dead horse. 'Knock down the flagpole in front of the gate'—pushing it out with a single thrust, who can hide or shrink? Having polished with effort, a seasoned elder: round and rolling, without corners or edges."
