> Ascending the hall on the winter solstice, \[the Master said\]: "Above the floating and empty realm, the three periods shift ever anew; within the firm and stable earth, the single yang subtly stirs into germination. Abiding without abiding, secretly operating the dynamic wheel; arising without arising, wondrously transcending shadow affairs. Therefore, borrowing empty space as substance and taking all phenomena as function, one universally attends offerings throughout the four continents without compulsion, and completely integrates within a single seal: empty, with nothing outside. Just as with arising without arising—how do you fully understand it? Do you understand? If you want to ask for news of spring, the plum blossoms themselves do not know."
