> The Master then said: “The Buddha Dharma does not have so many varieties. It only requires that you, at all times, let your body and mind become completely empty and unencumbered, without a single thread hanging, vast and without reliance, the numinous clarity of your fundamental ground not obscure in the slightest. If you tread such a path and reach it, naturally at all times you will accord, and at all times you will respond, with not a speck of dust to cause you obstruction. Then you will be able to turn the thousand sages behind your back; only then can you be called a patch-robed monk. If you lean upon another’s doorway, take another’s disposition, and swallow another’s mixed tea, how is that not like a blind donkey following the great herd? Since it is like this, in the end what about it? If you do not return, that is up to you; once you return, you attain it. Over the misty waves of the five lakes, who would contend with you?”
