> A woodcutter of Guangnan, / A postulant of Huaixi. / A bright pearl rolls on a platter; / Pure gold emerges from the smelter. / Penetrating forms and images, neither ordinary nor sacred share the same dust; / Continuing the radiance, the lineage naturally knows no night. / As all stars encircle the dipper's bowl, / As all streams rush toward the lower sea. / Abandoning the bowl-bag, he fled; / It could not be lifted, and was earnestly sought back. / It was not the wind or the banner that waved, / Revealing that emotion transcended the objects themselves. / The leaves fall and return to the root—when arriving, there was no mouth; / The hundreds of thousands of samādhis are but one hair on nine oxen.
